Access Issues
BHS Scotland is the lead organisation for equestrian access issues and has a full time access officer. This page will keep you up to date with access issues for riders nationally.
All the new access rights are described in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. This is the website of the book, run by Scottish Natural Heritage.

Forestry Commission Scotland provide access in many of their forests throughout the country. The Moray Forest District page gives a lot of info on the local forests. Also find out about Culbin Forest.

The Scottish Borders has a network of over 200 miles of waymarked trails designed for riders and walkers. The South of Scotland Countryside Trails has accommodation for horses and riders as well as livery yards. Get the information pack and plan your own route, two days or ten, it's up to you.
Horses Welcome B&B for horses throughout Scotland but mostly in the south at the moment. Also see RideUK for similar information.
Brenfield Farm is the home of Argyll Trail Riding. There are several week-long and shorter trail rides exploring the glens and mountains of the West Coast. Try the Rob Roy Trail from Inverary to Fort William.

A range of good strong well designed saddlebags is available from Sportack, in Arizona. Don't worry about the distance – they use FedEx who will deliver within two days. Unfortunately freight and import duties bump up the price but they are still excellent value for money.
Anquet provide Ordnance Survey maps at 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 scales in digital format, together with a program to read and print the maps and to store your routes.

MEAG is affiliated to the British Horse Society and group members can get discounted individual membership. BHS Scotland has an access section and links to many other access groups in Scotland.
Strathisla Riding Club has an excellent cross-country course in the scenic grounds of Gordon Castle in Fochabers and a large arena at Lintmill near Cullen. A very friendly club; they organise a range of events throughout the year.
Scottish Endurance Riding Club - organises pleasure rides and longer distance competitive rides throughout Grampian.
International League for the Protection of Horses
